"Schools Break Children...You got to face that first if you want to do better." - Dr. Chris Edmin
"Education in the United States has always been framed as the cure for all of society's ills. It is supposed to even the playing field and create socioeconomic equality, but it has not been interested in allowing brown cookies to stand alone outside of their attachment to the white cream filling." Dr. Chris EdminLet's talk about it.

Restorative approaches to classroom management focus on building relationships, community, and accountability rather than relying primarily on punishment or control.
The goal is to create a learning environment where students feel respected, responsible, and connected to one another and to the teacher.
According to Thibodeaux, et al. (2015), student discipline is a top reason for teachers leaving the classroom. Student discipline needs to be more actively considered among the important variables to address teacher attrition
(Ramos, J. & Hughes, T., 2020) and, as noted earlier, a central cause of Burnout Syndrome).
Preventative discipline strategies are proactive approaches designed to create a positive classroom environment and prevent misbehavior before it occurs, whereas reactionary discipline strategies are responses to misbehavior after it happens.
Understanding the importance of preventative strategies helps educators promote long-term success and a culture of respect and responsibility. Preventative discipline teaches, supports, and nurtures positive behavior. Reactionary discipline punishes after the fact. While consequences are sometimes necessary, effective classrooms rely far more on prevention—because it builds lasting behavior change and stronger classroom communities.
